Combat is resolved instantly by a deterministic formula — no luck, no dice.
When you attack, both fleets are reduced to two totals: combined Attack and combined HP. The defender also gains strength from their Defense Grid (roughly +15 attack and +200 HP per level). Each side then 'fires' at the other; whoever would wipe the other out in fewer rounds wins. The result is fully deterministic — the same fleets always produce the same outcome, so victory comes from composition and preparation, not chance.
Your performance is graded 0 to 3 stars based on how much of your fleet survives.
